Month of the Military Child 2026

Military volunteer reading to class of second graders on the carpet

đź’ś April is the Month of the Military Child! đź’ś
April is recognized nationwide as the Month of the Military Child, a time dedicated to honoring the strength of children in military families. This month was created to highlight the unique challenges military children face—frequent moves, extended separations during deployments, and the constant adjustments that come with military life—while also celebrating their courage, adaptability, and pride in serving alongside their families.

At our school, this recognition is especially meaningful. Nearly 45% of our student body—more than 300 students—are military‑connected, making military children an essential and valued part of our school community. Their experiences enrich our classrooms, and their resilience inspires us every day.

Supporting Military‑Connected Students

We are proud to support our military families through intentional programs and connections designed to help students feel understood, supported, and anchored at school. This programs is Anchored for Life, a club for military‑connected students. Through this group, students meet regularly with our school counselors to talk openly about life as a military child.

Anchored for Life provides a safe, welcoming space where students can:

  • Share and process feelings related to deployments and homecomings
  • Connect with peers who understand military life
  • Welcome new students who are transitioning into our school
  • Build confidence, coping skills, and a sense of belonging

This program helps ensure that no military child feels alone and that every military family feels connected and supported within our school.

The Power of Community and Connection

In addition to structured programs, we are deeply grateful for the military volunteers who generously give their time to connect with our students. These volunteers visit classrooms to read with students, play math games, and build meaningful relationships, reinforcing both learning and connection. Their presence not only supports academic growth, but also strengthens the bond between our school and the military community we proudly serve. We are incredibly thankful for their dedication and willingness to invest time in our students.

Honoring Our Military Children—This Month and Always

For TES, April serves as a reminder of our ongoing commitment to understanding and supporting the needs of military‑connected students—not just this month, but throughout the entire year.
